News is information and we are surrounded by news in different forms. News can change ones life or it can be cast as completely irrelevant to ones life.
Since the formation of Vice formerly known as ‘The Voice of Montreal’ it has been much debated whether Vice is an appropriate source of news.
Real Journalism?
More importantly, can Vice be classed as “real journalism?” Those who are familiar with Vice Media will be aware of the controversy Vice presents.
Vice has the ability to produce news in such a manner that appeals to the younger audience in particular. It is common knowledge that Vice news comes with a great deal of controversy, news is presented as entertainment.
It can also be said that Vice prioritises entertainment over the harsh reality. Vice has developed an image, in order to sustain this image the news or information Vice present is almost always portrayed as entertainment.

According to The Telegraph, last year Vice generated revenue of about $175 Million as popularity continues to increase!
According to ‘Mediacom’ “Vice Media, has become an expert in making and distributing exciting, provocative content for the millennial generation.” There’s our answer, Vice Media’s audience is today’s “millennial generation.” Why? Exciting content is key.
‘Does Cocaine Have Any Potential as an Antidepressant?’
So, Vice Media isn’t just about controversy? Vice Article presenting Cocaine in a positive light is one example of an extremely controversial article. Of course, this is not what parents want their children to be viewing; maybe this is why Vice is particularly appealing to a younger audience?
In the article, it is stated that cocaine “saved her from her grief.” So now drug abuse can be justified? Is this really news?
